About the Burlingame Pet Parade
The Burlingame Pet Parade was started in 2004 by a group of Burlingame citizens who wanted to bring the community together with a hometown event. The 2006 Pet Parade was sponsored by the Broadway Merchants association, the Peninsula Humane Society and the Daily Journal.
Entertainment at the 3rd Annual Burlingame Broadway Pet Parade was provided by:
- Rudy Horak, who offered free rides to children after the parade
- The Los Trancos Woods Community Marching Band, which played in the parade and after the parade
- The San Mateo Elks Concert Band, which played before and after the parade.
- Parade commentary was provided by Stephen Hamilton and two children, Derek and Diana Daniels
- The Peninsula Humane Society had its mobile spay-neuter van and adoption van on display
- The Burlingame Lions offered a barbecue lunch
- Mr. Buddy the Clown (Ken Hoffman), Mayor Cathy Baylock and Police Chief Jack Van Etten, who read animal stories to children after the parade in the Easton Branch of the Burlingame Public Library
The parade was started in 2004 by a group of volunteers who wanted to promote community spirit. This year no commercial or political entries were permitted.
The Peninsula Humane Society played a major role in the 2006 parade, with more than 50 volunteers participating. A dozen Burlingame High School students also volunteered to help with the parade.
Key volunteers on the Burlingame Pet Parade Committee were Ross Bruce of the Broadway Merchants Association; Burlingame Councilman Russ Cohen, who did the graphics; Burlingame Councilwoman Ann Keighran; Stephen and Fiona Hamilton; Rudy Horak; Mark Hundley, the official parade photographer; Burlingame Vice Mayor Terry Nagel; Jennifer Pfaff, who distributed publicity materials; Brian Probst of the Peninsula Humane Society; Don Shepley, traffic director for the Burlingame Police Department; and Jean Silveira.
